I received a message on Facebook the other day that asked me. "Are you still putting people on Google?"… Yes, I replied. He then continues, "Can you teach me how to make money with my computer at home"?
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to work from home and make money from your computer?
A lot of people do make mooney from online marketing, but if making money online was that simple, wouldn't everyone be doing it?
I wish it were that simple, and that fast. Having been involved with online marketing since 1998, I am learning new stuff every day. he first thing I would say to that question is, if you are considering to make money from online marketing, do not quit your day job… at least not at first.
There are several factors that will hold you back and/or help you excel when it comes to online marketing and making money online, but here are the first three that I think of when people ask me how they can start making money online.
A) Discipline: The first is having the discipline to actually do it.
B) Computer/HTML/Graphic skills: In some cases, depending on what you are selling online, you may not need any of these skills, but having some online knowledge and other computer skills can give you a huge advantage. Obviously, these skills differ from people to people, so everyone starts at a different level and this is what makes it so hard to teach. There is are many depths to being a good at making money online. It's important to understand that you don't know what you don't know.
C) The product: What you are selling is as important as how you are selling it. A product that is extremely popular may be a tougher market to get into than a product that is targeted to a specific niche. Something to consider if you are looking for a product to sell.
People seem to think that there is some magic formal to online marketing… (and there kinda is), but the online marketers who know the magic either sell their secrets or they keep those secrets to themselves.
However, with all that being said, understand that the "magic" is slightly different for every kind product. So first, if you want to make money online with your computer, it's important to find your niche and the best method to market that product/service online.
So, before you even ask, "Can You Teach Me How to Make Money with My Computer at Home?" go through these steps first to identify what direction your online marketing should go. This will help identify where you should start.
Step #1 – Identify Your Niche Category
I have broken online marketing down to 3 different categories. Each one of these has a different method of marketing. So identify what your category is and you get a better idea of how you target your potential audience online.
A. Promoting A Small Business
For sure you will need a website and the major social media business site profiles. Posting unique, well-written articles that are keyphrase friendly for your business will help people find you on Google and you can share that content on social media.
B. Selling "stuff" (i.e. eBay)
I don't personally market on eBay, Amazon, decluttr.com or similar sites, but I do know that there are a plenty of lessons out there to learn how to do it. You may not need a website, but there are WordPress themes for Amazon and the like as well as plenty of WordPress plugins that can help in your efforts. Sometimes making money online can be as simple as finding something in your garage that you need to sell or having a good wholesale connection and then sell for slightly below retail.
C. Affiliate Marketing
– I know lot's of fellow online marketers that make their money in affiliate marketing promoting products are similar to their websites niche. You can find plenty of products that you can sell from sites like;
and you make a commission from selling the products and services they offer. Having a good website to drive traffic to is important, but making money online can also be as simple as creating a Facebook ad, targeting your market and sending potential people to your product(s) that are available on another site with your unique affiliate link. (Be careful here, some social media sites may dictate what affiliate links they do and do not accept.)
Step #2: Understand Your Skills and What Are Not
It looks and sounds so easy first, but then once you get started, you start realizing real fast what you don't know. For example, if you fall into category 1, maybe you will get lost when it comes to buying a domain name to installing WordPress to your domain name in your Cpanel. There are many places to get lost and then you're most likely will loose interest.
Identifying your skills (or lack of) will tell you where you either need to start or tell you what you need to outsource. If building a website is not your thing, have someone build you one. Don't waste your time with "cheap" website builders, if you don't understand WordPress and how to build a good website for the Search Engines and for Social Media, don't even waste your time doing it yourself.
And again, that doesn't mean you will always need a website to make money online.
Step #3 – Find the Top 10 Money Making Niches that You Are Interested In.
Especially with affiliate marketing, it will be tough difficult not to loose interest and give up if you are not interested in the product you are selling.
If you are new to online marketing and looking for a place to start, research and write down your top 10 "Niches" where you think you can make money, then find the "micro-niche" within that market and then start by promoting it. The riches are in the niches and if you are too broad, it may be far to much work and/or you get spread too thin.
Almost every niche you come up with, there is a great chance that will find it as an affiliate product that you can sell online and make a percentage of the sale.
For example, if "Remote Control Airplanes" was the main niche, then a specific model of place would be the micro-niche. Market the best plane, the replacement parts/upgrades, tips on flying it, etc, etc.
Drive people to your website by being the "Master of that Model". Know everything about that model plane and write about it on your website, be the expert. If you are doing this correctly, you will get those articles to the top of Google for relevant searches and you can use those articles for sharing on Social Media that will drive traffic as well.
The key here is to drive people to your website using that micro-niche and then the other planes you promote on your website will then sell themselves.
After you have a grip on that model plane, then go after another one! After a year or so, (or shorter) you will have created a brand new following that buy your remote planes and other similar products that you are selling on your website.
Your interest may not be remote controlled airplanes, but whatever yours is, follow the same formula.
Step #4 – Collecting the Money
Something I know a lot of people don't think about until later, but how are you going to collect the money? In most cases, you will find that PayPal will offer you everything you need, but in some situations, you may need a merchant account. Figure out which one you will need before you before you start.
Step #5 – Follow the Leader
Without plagiarizing (you want to be unique), locate other successful people or companies that are marketing the same or similar product(s) you are, then do what they successful ones are doing. If they are on Facebook, then you should have a Facebook business page, if they are on unique sites for that niche, you need to be there too.
One thing is for sure, you will always be learning and always be telling yourself, "I wish I knew that a year ago!"… it never ends.
No matter what your interests are, there is a great chance that you can turn your interest into a way to "Make money with my computer at home", but also understand, depending on your online skills, you will have a lot of learning to do.
There is no one answer and no way to answer the "Can You Teach Me How to Make Money with My Computer at Home?" question in this one post. But I hope it gave you a good start to planning your online empire.
Don't Ever Give Up & Good Luck!
